South East
The South East of Florida runs from Sebastian Inlet in the North to Hollywood Beach in the South. Many a vacation starts or ends in this narrow section of barrier islands and peninsulas sliced by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. While the Treasure Coast of Florida is undeveloped, the Gold Coast is over developed. Many of Florida’s notorious or famous cities are part of the South East Coast area. They sit on peninsulas or barrier islands not much more than sand bars.
The South East is heavily settled with famous beach towns and resorts. There is the infamous three: Miami Beach, Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale. There is also Boca Raton, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Pompano Beach and West Palm Beach. There are, also the well-known beaches – Hollywood Beach, North Beach Park, South Inlet Beach, Red Reef Park, Delray Beach, Lanta Park, Juno Beach, Jupiter Beach Park, Blowing Rocks Beach and Pompano Beach. Both the cities and the beaches create the lust-for-life character of South West Florida. In South West Florida, you find Palm Beach is a town, an island and a county.
The Gold Coast or South East Florida offers different people different things. There is the party round of Fort Lauderdale’s Mad and frantic Spring Break. There is the quiet of angling off the coast for big fish or off the Municipal Pier at Pompano Beach, self-acclaimed “Sword Fish Capital of the World.” There are the affluent homes of Palm Beach and Boca Raton and the mixed urbanization of Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. There is the stuffiness of the rich and conservative of Palm Beach and the more relaxed lifestyles of Hutchison Island.
People usually stay put for a vacation in South West Florida. A car is an essential as public transportation up and down this main strip is inadequate or does not exist. The average vacationer finds a likely hotel, motel, condominium or resort and stays a while, driving up and down the coast. While partying is one reason for hanging around the Gold Coast, other reasons include shopping, the beaches, golfing and fishing. Inland trips are few unless you like to fish or escape the crowds. Usually, however, people who come to South East Florida are seeking the life and adventure found in the actions of and reactions to the large groups of people comprising South East Florida vacation life.
