Fernandina Beach

The town of Fernandina Beach sits on Amelia Island in the North East of Florida. Fernandina Beach, Florida, was, until the 18th century a renowned home for pirates. A mere 100 years ago, the city bristled and bustled with casinos and brothels. The streets were scenes of many a wild and crazy event. The rich and notorious built their homes there between 1870 and 1910. These days are long past, but Fernandina Beach, Fl., is a city proud of its seafaring history.

The downtown of Fernandina Beach is the Amelia Island Historic District. Within its boundaries are some 50 or more blocks registered with the National Register of Historic Places. Within these 50 blocks, some 450 structures reflect the ornate designs of Queen Anne and Victoria as well as the Italianate style – all common prior to 1927. In the Amelia Island Historic District are shops, art galleries and specialized or unique boutiques designed to catch the eye of many an unwary vacationer. You can walk into, for example, one Karen’s Fabric Shop one of the specialized fabric shops in Fernandina Beach, Florida. You can also shop for jewelry, art and antiques as well as clothing, books, candy and collectibles. The distinct look of the shops also extends to the nearby available housing.

Fernandina Beach real estate offices can help you locate the ideal place to stay. Several of the Fernandina Beach motels, hotels or inns and many of the bed and breakfast homes in Fernandina Beach are located near the downtown. In fact, places such as the Ash Street Inn and the Hoyt Bed and Breakfast carry on the traditional look of the downtown district. They have picket fences, sunny windows and wide verandas. They look open, bright and oh so inviting. Some still have clubfoot bathtubs. The Captain’s House has nine comfortable apartments for rent in a grey clapboard house with white trim. The Bailey House is a Victorian house, all turrets, gables and peaks with nine roomy guest rooms and a honeymoon cottage at the rear of the building.

There are Fernandina Beach ocean front rentals available. There are also Fernandina Beach condo rentals. On much of Amelia Island and in Fernandina Beach, a condo is low in height and listed as a “villa.” There are not, as a talk with a representative of Fernandina Beach, Florida, real estate would demonstrate, any tall, over bearing structure in the community. The buildings hug the ground. While it is natural to expect a Fernandina Beach bed and breakfast to be a low-rise, even the Fernandina Beach hotels are low in stature, resembling small inns. All buildings, small or taller, however, fall under the watchful eye of the Fernandina Beach Police Department.
