Pass-a-Grille

Pass-a-Grille sits at the southernmost tip of the Pinella county Peninsula. It is a small community in the Central West. Pass-a-Grille Beach, Florida, is one block wide and a few blocks long, but it links up with the other beaches on the island. This tranquil stretch of white sand creates the western border of the town; Merry Pier creates a boundary on the Bay side. Pass-a-Grille is a place of beautiful sunsets and porpoise sightings. A part of the Central West area of Florida, Pass-a-Grille is a breath of clean, fresh air blowing through the crowded nearby beaches.

Pas-a-Grille Beach extends two miles. Its white sand attracts a few visitors to this off the regular tourist track community. You can catch glimpses of Shell Key from the beach and spend quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of more fast-paced areas. The homes reflect the laid-back approach to life in Pass-a-Grille, Florida.

The history of Pass-a-Grille is part of the early exploration and settlement of the State of Florida. Pass-a-Grille represents one of the earliest settlements on the barrier islands. Its homes date from the late 1800s and early 1900s. It was home to pirates, fishermen and lumberjacks until wealthy businessmen built homes in the community. During World War I, excursions made their way up and along the beach to the small community. There are 22 historic homes and buildings you can view on a walking tour of Pass-a-Grille.

The community is small. There are only around 36 avenues. There are residents, parks, restaurants and a post office as well as some shops. The community is also the home for the Gulf Beaches Historical Museum.

Today, it offers its visitors para sailing, paddle-boating and catamaran rentals at the nearby Don Cesar Hotel and Spa. You can also take the Shell Key Shuttle or go on board any number of sightseeing or charter boats, spending you day at sea, swimming, fishing and snorkeling.

Pass-a-Grille vacation rentals are few. Developers lament the lack of build-up in the area. You can stay in Pass-a-Grille accommodations if you book a spot at the Sabal Palms Inn. This is prime beachfront property. A small resort it sits in the Pass-a-Grille’s historic district. It has direct access to the beach sitting in front of it. Sabal Palms Inn features 11 small apartments either studio or 1-room suites. There are within its reach restaurants, a heated pool, tennis and basketball courts, a grocery store, art galleries, charter fishing and access to the Shell Key Shuttle for eco-tourism and sightseeing tours.
