Central East
Central East Florida is a section of Central Florida. Depending upon where you draw your boundaries, the area touches the North East from Daytona down to the Space Coast and such communities as Cocoa Beach and new Smyrna Beach. Indian River, St. Luce and Martin counties comprise part of Central East as the Treasure Coast. The famed Daytona Beach is its best known resort, Cape Canaveral its greatest space attraction. The area also includes such interesting sites and places as Edgewater, the Ponce De Leon Inlet Lighthouse, Wilbur-by-the-Sea, Edgewater, Apollo Beach, Turtle Mound Archeological Site, Canaveral National Seashore, Playalinda Beach, Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and Indian Harbor Beach. East Central Florida sits off the deep waters of the Atlantic.
The area of Central East Florida features contrasting interests. The past of pirates, sunken Spanish galleons and bloody sea battles is part of the history of Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin Counties. You can find the history displaced in various museums. Vero Beach also has an interesting museum showing another aspect of Florida history. The Indian River Citrus Museum displays the history of the fruit industry in Florida. For a history of Space, there is the Astronaut Hall of Space and Cape Canaveral. The Ocean, so much a part of the state of Florida’s past and present, is explored in the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution. These activities can be part of or in addition to the usual tourist attractions of Central East Florida. There is swimming, sunning on the beach and fishing. In East Central Florida, deep-sea fishing is found at Ponce Inlet. Hire a charter, arrange for a deep-sea party trip for a full or half-a-day. Cape Marian is another place for any summer moth, including August for fishing in East Central Florida. If you do not like deep-sea fishing try snorkeling in East Central Florida. It is wonderful to peer beneath the clear blue water and see the vast variety of sea life.
